At DOXA LLC, we believe in doing things differently. While most drivers seek easy jobs with big paychecks, we know that real success comes from taking on challenges.
Only 10% of truck drivers and carriers have the proper licenses and permits to haul hazardous materials (HAZMAT). That’s why at DOXA LLC, we have chosen to specialize in HAZMAT loads. It's not easy, but we love challenges! So, we will keep it real and share the realities of hauling HAZMAT.
INSURANCE CHALLENGES
Getting insured for HAZMAT? It’s tough. Insurance companies don’t just hand out coverage, they make you work for it and being insured by a good company is the hardest thing.
- They want a top safety score. No accidents. Low loss ratio.
- They dig into DOT inspections to see where we mess up the most.
- They don’t accept hiring rookie drivers. Two years of experience is the minimum.
- We must have dash cams in every truck - no excuses.
- They want us to do DOT inspections every 3 months - so we catch problems before they turn into breakdowns.
- Their rules? Strict and we must follow them to stay insured and keep rolling at DOXA LLC.
HAZMAT PERMITS
Did you know every state has different rules for HAZMAT? Yes, it’s a headache. At DOXA LLC, we’ve got permits to haul HAZMAT in all 48 states and even parts of Canada. Keeping them up to date is not easy.
- It takes a ton of work to stay compliant.
- It’s also not cheap. Permits cost a lot of money, but if you’ve got enough trucks on the road, it’s worth it!
CDL HAZMAT ENDORSEMENT
Getting a HAZMAT endorsement isn’t easy either. Keeping it? Even harder.
- Drivers are required to renew their HAZMAT endorsement every 5 years. The test? 50 questions.
- Passed the test? Great, but you’re not done. Next up is an FBI background check. One small thing on your record? Forget it. They won’t approve of you.
- Move to another state? Start all over. New test, new background check, new headaches. That’s why at DOXA LLC, we only take drivers with HAZMAT endorsements. Why? Because they’ve already passed the toughest - FBI checks. That means next-level safety, professionalism, and no surprises.
SAFETY PROCEDURES
We could talk about safety all day long. It’s a 24/7 job, and we have a whole team of 10 people managing 100 drivers to make sure everything is done right.
Here’s what it takes:
- Every pallet/tote must be strapped individually. No shifting allowed.
- Placards? That’s a whole job on its own. We must check two different books to make sure they’re correct.
- Shippers make mistakes. When they do, we must fix them - wrong placards, missing paperwork, we handle it.
- The Bill of Lading (BOL) must be perfect. We highlight the important details, so nothing gets missed.
How do we keep it all in check? A WhatsApp group with every driver, dispatcher, safety team member, fleet manager, and maintenance crew. At DOXA LLC nothing moves until it’s 100% right. This job is for tough drivers, and you have to take safety seriously.
RATES
A lot of people think that because of the amount of work, the rates are double the regular load. In reality? It’s just around 20%, but it adds up. Here’s why it’s worth it:
- The real deal is that drivers get less downtime. You’re not stuck sitting in parking lots, waiting for a load.
- You have fast pickups and deliveries. HAZMAT is sensitive freight, shippers and receivers don’t want trucks hanging around too long.
- No long delays like reefers. No waiting hours for frozen food to unload.
At the end of the year, that extra 20% makes a difference. It’s not just about the rate per mile, it’s about staying loaded and moving.
